The women’s lions camp has received grim news.

The Finnish Ice Hockey Association announces that the team’s defender Jenni Hiirikoski has ended her Olympic tournament due to injury. She was injured during the match against Canada on Thursday and left the game in the first period. Hiirikoski has an upper body injury that requires surgical treatment.

– It was an unfortunate injury, which means I can no longer play. I am very disappointed that my games are cut short, Hiirikoski says in the ice hockey association’s announcement.

Hiirikoski is a regular member of the Finnish women’s national team. She was already playing in her fifth Olympic tournament.

– I am especially disappointed for Jenni herself. She is a big part of this team and has given us a lot. We all wish Jenni a speedy recovery, head coach Tero Lehterä says.

The women’s lions will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Saturday. The match starts at 22:10.
