A touching gesture from the USA champions in memory of the tragically deceased Johnny Gaudreau
The USA won gold in the ice hockey tournament at the Milano-Cortina Olympics, defeating Canada in a thrilling final in overtime with a score of 2-1.
The winning team’s players made a touching gesture when Jack Hughes scored the country’s first Olympic victory in 46 years, just 1 minute and 41 seconds into the overtime period.
The team’s leading players, led by Auston Matthews, Zach Werenski, and Matthew Tkachuk, brought onto the ice the jersey of Johnny Gaudreau, who passed away in August 2024, and made a victory lap with it.
The players’ tribute to their former national team mate clearly moved the audience, as well as Gaudreau’s family, who were watching the match live.
Perhaps the most touching moment, however, was when the USA players invited Gaudreau’s children onto the ice to join the team for the championship photo.
