Yle: Ismo Lehkonen hopes for more responsibility for this Young Lions player: “Totally drowning”
The Young Lions won their opening match of the U20 World Championship against Denmark with a score of 6-2. Next, Finland will face Latvia on Sunday evening.
Yle Sports ice hockey expert Ismo Lehkonen reviewed the Young Lions’ opening match. He wondered about the coaching staff’s decision to give forward Max Westergård a limited role.
– In my opinion, the coaching staff doesn’t really know how to utilize him. Westergård is a precision weapon who could score a goal here and there against tough teams. However, with limited ice time, he totally gets lost, and then this weapon remains unused, Lehkonen said.
Westergård played in Finland’s fourth line against Denmark. He received just over 11 minutes of ice time and recorded one assist.
– Free Westergård one way or another, Lehkonen urges.
Westergård, 18, plays for Sweden’s top team Frölunda. His responsibilities have also been limited in the SHL.
