A dramatic situation was witnessed earlier this week in the Czech Extra League when HC Plzeň’s Finnish forward Ville Petman suffered a serious injury during a match.

Petman lost his balance in a battle situation and crashed violently into the boards with his back and neck first. As a result of the impact, the Finn remained motionless on the ice. Eventually, he had to be carried off the rink on a stretcher and taken to the hospital for further examination.

The other party involved in the situation, Tomas Hyka, did not receive a penalty for the incident.

Plzeň’s head coach Josef Jandač commented on his player’s situation after the match with concern.

– Ville was taken to the hospital for examinations. We don’t know much more yet, but hopefully the injury is not serious. The players said it was an unfortunate tackle. Hopefully, he is okay, Jandač said.

Petman signed an extension with the Czech club earlier this week.

The forward is remembered from last season as the captain of SaiPa when the team surprised the entire hockey community and advanced sensationally to the Liiga finals.

Petman was one of SaiPa’s key players, having scored 19+30=49 points in 59 regular season games.
