Tre Kronor collapsed! Shock defeat pushing Sweden out of the World Cup quarter-finals
The Swedish national ice hockey team experienced its biggest humiliation of the World Championships so far on Saturday night, as Norway sensationally defeated the western neighbor 3–2. The loss was a huge setback for Sweden, as Tre Kronor’s quarter-final spot is no longer in the team’s own hands.
Sweden will face Slovakia in the final match of the group stage on Tuesday, but will also have to nervously watch Norway’s two remaining matches. Norway, which rose to fourth place in the group, is one point ahead of the Swedes. It still has two matches left to increase its points total.
The Norwegians will face the Czech Republic and Denmark in their final group stage matches.
The World Championship could turn into a massive nightmare for Sweden. Tre Kronor last missed the quarter-finals of the World Championships in 2021 – and now the same disaster threatens the country for the second time this decade.
Sweden’s goals were scored by Lucas Raymond and Ivar Stenberg, who is among the top names in this summer’s NHL draft.
NORWAY, which has firmly grasped the quarter-final spot, will also gain additional firepower for its offense during the final tournament as Detroit Red Wings’ Michael Brandsegg-Nygård joins the team’s ranks.
