Supplier: Jussi Ahokkaalle was offered a top position – he rejected it!
Finnish coach Jussi Ahokas has declined the AHL head coach position offered to him. The news was reported by CHEK News reporter Rick Dhaliwal on X.
According to Dhaliwal, the AHL team Abbotsford Canucks interviewed Ahokas and offered him the head coach position at the club. However, Ahokas did not accept the role. Abbotsford Canucks is the farm team of the Vancouver Canucks.
Ahokas, 45, has served as the head coach of the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL for the past three seasons, and his contract with the team is still valid for next season. Last season, Ahokas led Kitchener to both the OHL championship and the Memorial Cup victory.
There has been previous interest in Ahokas from both the NHL and AHL. He is considered one of the best young coaches who are eyeing a future job in the NHL.
Before his years in the OHL, Ahokas coached KooKoo and TPS in the Liiga. He has led Finland to world championships in both the under-18 and under-20 age groups.
Believe Ahokas turned it down.
Ahokas is viewed as 1 of the best young and upcoming coaches, wouldn’t be surprised if he lands elsewhere in the AHL.
