Montreal Canadiens made a big signing!
The Montreal Canadiens will continue under familiar command for a long time. The team announces that it has signed a multi-year extension with head coach Martin St. Louis.
NHL reporter Pierre LeBrun reports that this is a three-year extension, meaning St. Louis will remain with the Canadiens until the end of the 2029-30 season.
St. Louis, 51, began as head coach of the Canadiens in February 2022. He is now starting his fifth full season as the team’s head coach.
Last season, St. Louis led the Canadiens to fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The team won two playoff series through a seventh game and advanced all the way to the conference finals, where they were defeated by the Carolina Hurricanes.
– Marty has done an excellent job leading our young team. He is a great communicator and teacher. We look forward to him continuing his work to develop this group into a championship-contending team, Canadiens GM Kent Hughes says in the team’s statement.
St. Louis was nominated for NHL’s Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. He led the Canadiens to the playoffs that year for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
The Canadiens have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension with head coach Martin St-Louis.
