MM-kisoissa jymy-yllätys! Lilliputti humbled the Czech Republic
A huge surprise was seen in the B group of the World Championships on Saturday night. The puck’s little Slovenia managed to defeat the Czech Republic in overtime 3-2.
This was Slovenia’s first victory over the Czech Republic in World Championship history.
The first goal for Slovenia was scored by the familiar forward from the league, Matic Török. At the club level, the winger represents Tampereen Ilves.
Slovenia’s overtime hero was 22-year-old Marcel Mahkovec. He put the puck in the net just one minute and 14 seconds into overtime.
Despite the loss, the Czech Republic was in the driver’s seat during the match. The team won the shots on goal by a clear margin of 34-17.
With this victory, Slovenia is in fourth place in Group B. So far, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Italy have been left behind.
