Karua! The Czech team uploaded some harsh facts about the CHL.
CHL has sparked a lot of discussion in Finnish hockey circles in recent years, mostly negative. The European league incurs costs for the participating clubs, it hardly interests the audience, and the extra number of games strains the team.
Now the CEO of the Czech club Kometa Brno, Libor Zabransky, has published a lengthy statement regarding CHL. He states that the league has been good for the development of young players, but that’s where the positives end.
– The costs of the Champions Hockey League, which do not include overtime pay for all Kometa employees, are nearly 8.5 million Czech crowns, Zabransky says. This amount corresponds to about 351,565 euros.
– We have received 80,000 euros from CHL for participation and 15,000 euros for reaching the top 16. As for the costs of organizing home games and the ticket revenue we received, the end result is unfortunately again in the red. Another issue is the unfortunate injuries to players. Filip Kral will be out for five weeks after the Bern game, and Brandon Davidson has not played a single game since we faced Brynäs.
Finally, Zabransky raises the question of the league’s future.
– The idea behind CHL was probably not bad, but I repeat: comparing it to the Champions League in football is utopia. How the situation develops after 2028 is not just a question mark for me but for everyone involved in the league who are at a loss. There is no financial sense in all of Europe.
