A new rule for overtime is being tested in the Champions Hockey League.
In the upcoming CHL season, the attacking team will no longer be allowed to return the puck below the blue line during overtime. This rule only applies to 3vs3 overtime. If the rule is violated, the game will be stopped and the face-off will be moved to the defensive zone of the team that committed the infraction.
The rule change aims to resolve matches more often in overtime.
Another new rule will also be implemented in the CHL this season. From now on, power plays will be played to completion, even if the power play team scores a goal.
Next season, Finnish teams KalPa, Ilves, and Lukko will compete in the CHL.
