Jere Innala decided the CHL championship in overtime
Frölunda HC celebrates the championship of the Champions Hockey League, or CHL, in the 2025-26 season.
It defeated Luleå HF in the final between Swedish teams on Tuesday evening in overtime with a score of 3-2.
The winning goal was scored on a power play by Jere Innala. The goal was assisted by Henrik Tömmernes and a crucial faceoff win for Frölunda by Arttu Ruotsalainen.
The Finns were prominently featured in the match. Otto Leskinen scored Luleå’s equalizer at 2-2 just 15 seconds before the end of regular time. Eetu Koivistoinen was responsible for the visiting team’s opening goal.
The CHL championship was Frölunda’s fifth. This achievement is impressive, as the league championship has only been contested 11 times. Luleå celebrated the championship in the league’s inaugural season of 2014-15.
Finnish teams JYP and Tappara have won the CHL championship over the years.
