Kari Jalonen’s “Finnish team” on fire in the DEL – winning streak record broken
Head coach Kari Jalonen is leading Köln, which has made history in Germany’s top league DEL.
The team secured its 16th consecutive victory on Sunday by defeating Nürnberg at home with a score of 5-2. At the same time, the team rose to the top of the league’s winning streak statistics, surpassing Mannheim, which had 15 consecutive wins in the 2001-02 season.
The Finnish-led Köln’s winning streak has been backed by the hot-performing goalkeeper Janne Juvonen. Since arriving at the club at the end of October, the goalkeeper’s impact has been tremendous, as Köln last lost in regulation on November 2nd. Köln has collected points in 26 consecutive matches.
According to media reports, Jalonen, who is set to become the head coach of Tappara next season, has a coaching team rich in Finnish expertise, as alongside the rumored Fredrik Norrena also Tommi Satosaari is part of the coaching staff.
In addition to Juvonen, the player roster includes Finnish players Veli-Matti Vittasmäki, Oliver Kaski, Valtteri Kemiläinen and Juhani Tyrväinen.
Köln leads the DEL league by 15 points over Mannheim. The club last celebrated the German championship in the spring of 2002.
