Kari Jalonen: an amazing honor!
Kari Jalonen has been selected as the Coach of the Year in the German DEL league.
For his second season leading the Kölner Haien team, Jalonen, 66, guided the team to a regular season victory. They collected 116 points from 52 matches and achieved an impressive 16-game winning streak during the season.
Jalonen will leave Cologne at the end of this season. He will move to become the head coach of Tappara next season.
The Finnish goalkeeper of Cologne, Janne Juvonen, was also awarded for his strong season. He has been named the Player of the Year and the Best Goaltender.
Juvonen, 31, played 32 matches in the regular season with a save percentage of 93.2. He won as many as 26 of his matches and recorded five shutouts.
Juvonen signed a three-year contract extension with Cologne last week.
