Kalervo Kummola thundered fiercely about the Finnish World Championship farce
Kalervo Kummola reacts strongly to the failure of Finland’s under-18 girls’ national team in the World Championships. The Girl Lions lost all their matches in the tournament and were relegated to Division B for the first time in their history.
Finland’s tournament ended on Saturday with a 5-7 loss to Hungary in the relegation series. The drop to a lower division is historic, as Finland has never experienced anything like this in any age group before.
According to Iltalehti, the former president of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, Kummola, initially described the event in harsh terms on the messaging service X.
– The unfortunate relegation of the Finnish girls’ ice hockey team to Division B is a historical disaster, as Finland has never been relegated to Division B in any category, not even the men in the 1950s. Hopefully, this is a wake-up call and a new beginning, Kummola asserted.
Kummola’s initial message was later deleted. After that, he posted a new update, which had a calmer tone.
– Fortunately, most of the members of the team that was relegated to Division B are so young that they will still be eligible to lift the team back to Division A next year. Good luck, and tomorrow is a new day.
