Helsinki Jokerit forward Patrik Virta escaped without a suspension from the incident that occurred during Saturday’s match against Ilves.

Virta got into a scuffle with Ilves’ Erik Borg when he pulled the Jokerit forward down to the ice. In the situation, Virta’s leg swung towards Borg and partially hit him on the back.

No penalty was called on Virta for the incident, but the league’s situation room referred the case to the disciplinary delegation for evaluation.

The disciplinary committee concluded that it was not a deliberate kick or an attempt to kick.

– The delegation believes that this was not a deliberate kick or an attempt to kick directed at the opponent. The fact that the leg movement is directed towards Borg does not change the nature of the movement into what is defined as kicking in the rules under the described circumstances, the disciplinary decision stated.

Ilves won Saturday’s match after a shootout 4–3. The Tampere team leads the league with 28 points, while Jokerit is last in the standings with 11 points.
