KooKoo’s former coach Jouko Myrrä, who was dismissed at the beginning of October, has commented on the transfer rumors surrounding him.

Myrrä’s name came up in connection with the coaching changes at both Tappara and HIFK, where he was named the best coach in the league last summer.

Myrrä reveals in an Ilta-Sanomat interview that neither club had contacted him.

– I have been able to spend some quiet time here in Tampere, Myrrä says.

Jatkoaika.com previously reported that several Tappara players had hoped for Myrrä to become the new head coach after Kari Jalonen‘s surprising departure. According to Myrrä, there has been no confirmation of this claim reaching his ears.

Ultimately, Tappara appointed Fredrik Norrenan and HIFK appointed Tommi Miettinen as their head coaches for the remainder of the season.

Myrrä’s potential new coaching positions are complicated by his KooKoo contract, which runs until the spring of 2028. Accepting a new job would mean terminating his current contract and ending KooKoo’s salary payment obligation.

– If I take another position, then the salary payment obligation ends. In that case, the contract must be terminated first, Myrrä explains.

The 57-year-old coach, however, does not intend to permanently step away from coaching. Working abroad is also a possible option.

– I am a coach at heart. Of course, I still want to coach. However, things need to progress in the right order.

Myrrä does not have an agent looking for new job opportunities. He believes that his previous track record speaks for itself if any club is interested in his services.
