Finnish goalkeeper known from the NHL and Liiga retires – immediately found a new job
Finnish goalkeeper Christopher Gibson is ending his playing career at the age of 33. He has immediately found a new job, as he will start as the goalkeeper and video coach for EC Kassel Huskies, who play in the second highest league in Germany.
In his last season, Gibson first played in the ICEHL league for the Italian HC Bolzano, where he had four games with a save percentage of 87.9, and later in the season, he played two games in the German DEL league for Schwenninger Wild Wings with a save percentage of 87.1.
Gibson was drafted into the NHL in the 2nd round in 2011 by the Los Angeles Kings. He played for a long time in North America, where he also accumulated 16 NHL games. Gibson represented the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning. In the AHL, Gibson played 244 games.
For the 2023-24 season, Gibson arrived in the Liiga with Lukko. He played 15 regular season games with a save percentage of 87.7 and three playoff games with a save percentage of 89.6. In the following season, he played in Slovakia and Germany, where he represented the Kassel Huskies team.
