Final pair confirmed – these Finnish players are competing for the AHL championship
The AHL final pair is set. This year, the Chicago Wolves and the Toronto Marlies will compete for the Calder Cup.
Chicago advanced to the finals by defeating the Colorado Eagles in the conference finals’ Game 7 with a score of 4-3. Toronto, on the other hand, overcame the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins earlier with a 4-2 victory.
The AHL finals will also feature Finnish players competing for the championship. Defenders Juuso Välimäki and Aleksi Heimosalmi play for Chicago. Forward Juha Jääskä is also part of the team but has been sidelined for the entire season due to injury. There are no Finnish players in Toronto.
Välimäki has recorded 11 points in 16 playoff games in the AHL with stats of 3+8. Heimosalmi, on the other hand, has logged 2 points in seven games with stats of 1+1.
The Chicago Wolves are the farm team of the Carolina Hurricanes, while the Toronto Marlies are the farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The AHL finals will start this week in the night between Saturday and Sunday according to Finnish time.
