Connor McDavid rewrote NHL history – Wayne Gretzky was left behind
Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid broke NHL legend Wayne Gretzky’s over 40-year-old record in Sunday’s game against the New York Rangers.
McDavid became the fastest player in NHL history to reach 30 assists in a single season. The Canadian achieved this in just 15 games, while Gretzky reached the same milestone in 16 games during the 1984–85 season.
McDavid recorded 1+1 as Edmonton defeated the Rangers 4–1.
The Oilers captain has logged an assist in each of his 15 games this season, which is also a new NHL record from the start of the season.
McDavid also moved up to fourth place in Edmonton’s franchise history for goals scored. His career 418th goal moved him ahead of Glenn Anderson. At the top of the list is Gretzky with 583 goals, followed by Finnish legend Jari Kurri with 474 goals.
McDavid has started the season explosively. He has accumulated 39 points in 15 games with a scoring line of 9+30=39, which translates to an impressive 2.6 points per game. McDavid is currently on pace for 218 points this season.
