Aleksander Barkov‘s recovery towards game readiness is progressing promisingly. The Finnish captain of the Florida Panthers, who has been sidelined for a long time, is now back on the ice.

Head coach Paul Maurice stated after the team’s practice on Thursday that Barkov, who has started skating, is expected to return to NHL action in about four weeks.

If everything goes according to plan, the Finn may be seen in action as early as the end of November.

Barkov injured his left knee in early October during a game against the San Jose Sharks. It was only the Panthers’ second regular season game of the season.

The injury raised great concern, as Barkov was already sidelined for the entire last NHL season due to a serious knee injury sustained during training camp.

This time, however, the Finn avoided surgery. The original prognosis for absence was 6–8 weeks, and based on the latest assessment, his recovery is indeed on schedule.

Florida also received another piece of good news on Thursday. The team’s veteran forward Brad Marchand has, like Barkov, started skating, and according to Maurice, the Canadian is expected to return to game readiness in about three weeks.
