St. Louis Blues’ Finnish forward Aleksanteri Kaskimäki, 22, celebrated his first NHL goal on Saturday.

Kaskimäki’s goal was also the game-winning goal, as St. Louis defeated the Detroit Red Wings on the road with a score of 5–4. The Finnish forward became the hero at 13:15 of the third period, redirecting a shot from Aleksei Toroptshenko past Detroit’s goalie John Gibson.

St. Louis had to work hard for their victory. The team was down by two goals in the final period, but Pavel Butshnevitsh and Justin Barron brought the visitors back to level. Kaskimäki scored the winning goal just 18 seconds after Barron’s equalizer.

For Kaskimäki, the game was his 11th in the NHL. This season, the Finn has played six NHL games and recorded 1+1 in points.

Kaskimäki, who previously played for HIFK, is a third-round draft pick of St. Louis from 2022. The Blues selected him as the 73rd player in that draft. Kaskimäki is currently in his third season in North American rinks.
