Canada made an exceptional decision with Sidney Crosby – this hasn’t been seen in 16 years.
The Canadian national team has made an unusual decision regarding Sidney Crosby. Crosby will not serve as captain for the World Championships, and thus he will play for the first time in 16 years on a team where he is not the captain.
Canada named 19-year-old Macklin Celebrini as its captain even before Crosby joined the team. Nevertheless, Celebrini will serve as the team’s captain in this tournament. Crosby, on the other hand, is Canada’s alternate captain along with Ryan O’Reilly and John Tavares.
Crosby has been the captain of Canada in its last six major tournaments. The last time he was not the captain of his team was at the 2010 Winter Olympics, when Scott Niedermayer served as Canada’s captain.
Crosby has captained the Pittsburgh Penguins for the last 19 seasons.
