Atro Leppänen’s position in the NHL is under a rock – here’s the reason? “Pure chaos”
Last season’s league sensation Atro Leppänen‘s start with the Edmonton Oilers NHL organization has been rocky.
The league’s last season’s points leader was sent from training camp to the AHL farm league, where the skilled defenseman has scored 1+6 points in 14 games.
The Athletic’s Allan Mitchell states that Leppänen’s rise to the Oilers’ NHL roster is currently far off. In particular, one aspect of Leppänen’s game is receiving criticism from the reporter.
– Atro Leppänen’s value is declining. This is a disappointment for all those who expected him to be the next brilliant Finnish defenseman like Reijo Ruotsalainen and Janne Niinimaa. Although he is producing offensively, his defensive play is pure chaos, Mitchell criticizes the Finnish player’s performance.
Leppänen recorded an impressive 21+42=63 points in 60 regular season games he played in the league last season. Having broken the single-season points record for defensemen, Leppänen was also named the league’s best player at the end of the season and selected for the national team for the World Championships.
