Last season, the Finnish defender Atro Leppänen, 26, sensationally won the league’s scoring title with Sport, scoring his first goal and his first point in the AHL early Sunday morning Finnish time.
Leppänen, representing the AHL team Bakersfield Condors, scored his team’s third goal on the power play as the Condors defeated the Tucson Roadrunners 3-1. Viljami Marjala registered an assist on Leppänen’s goal.
Leppänen has played five games in the AHL this season. He signed a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers last spring and played preseason games with the NHL team before the start of this season.
