Antti Mäkinen praised the Young Lions defender – comparisons to an NHL superstar: “Everything is in place”
The Young Lions have won two matches they played in the under-20 World Championships. They have defeated Denmark and Latvia.
NHL commentator Antti Mäkinen highlighted his favorite player from the Young Lions team before the Latvia match on X. Among many promising players, Mäkinen mentioned defenseman Arttu Välilä.
– He has all the pieces in place to become Finland’s own Quinn Hughes. Phenomenal blade control + balance + glide, as well as the ability to read and create the game. I recommend keeping an eye on him, Mäkinen praises.
Välilä, 19, played in the Young Lions’ opening match against Denmark but was sidelined for the Latvia match. He will return to the lineup on Monday when Finland faces the Czech Republic starting at 22:30.
Välilä represents Lukko in the Liiga. He has played 30 matches for the club this season with a score of 0+8.
