ZÜRICH. The Lions opened the World Championship on Friday with a clinical 3-1 victory over Germany. A key player in the victory was captain Aleksander Barkov, who recorded one assist.
Barkov also performed admirably along the boards. After the game, he gave his stick to a young fan. After handing over the stick, Barkov stayed to wave to the crowd before disappearing into the arena.
After the match, Barkov clarified to the media what the situation was really about.
– The boy asked for a stick. Someone else took it and wasn’t going to give it back to that boy. I had to make sure he got it, Barkov explains.
The Lions’ tournament continues on Saturday with a match against Hungary. The game starts at 17:20.
