Finland won the championship – A historic feat by Raimo Helminen
Finland won the first-ever 3-on-3 ice hockey World Cup tournament by defeating Britain in the final with a score of 6–1. The two-day tournament was held over the weekend in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Raimo Helminen‘s coached Finnish team started the final strongly, as Anton Levtchi put Finland ahead just 15 seconds into the game. Markus Nurmi was the most effective scorer of the final, completing a hat-trick.
The tournament’s most valuable player was Teemu Pulkkinen.
This was the first national team World Cup tournament in the history of the 3ICE series. Eight countries participated: Finland, Britain, the United States, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
Finland advanced to the championship by defeating Sweden in the quarter-finals, Canada in the semi-finals, and Britain in the final.
The Finnish championship team included Kasimir Kaskisuo, Teemu Pulkkinen, Markus Nurmi, Teemu Kivihalme, Oskari Laaksonen, Anton Levtchi, and Leo Ring.
