Young Lions: These Danish players to watch out for!

The Young Lions will start the U20 World Championship on Friday with a match against Denmark.

Denmark returns to the highest level of the U20 World Championship after a seven-year break. In pre-tournament speculation, the team is expected to be one of the underdogs of the tournament.

Mads Kongsbak Klyvø is an 18-year-old forward and the only Danish player drafted to the NHL. He was a 4th round (112th overall) pick by the Florida Panthers last summer. The 188-centimeter tall and sturdy forward, playing in the Frölunda organization, is known for his powerful wrist shot. Kongsbak Klyvø performed strongly in last year’s D1A U20 World Championship and was a key player when Denmark won the Division 1 U18 tournament. However, an injury has kept him sidelined for the entire season, so he won’t enter the tournament in peak form. Kongsbak Klyvø showcased his skills in a practice match against Canada by scoring a skillful goal.

William Bundgaard is one of the brightest stars of Denmark’s offense. Last year, he collected 10 points in five games at the U18 D1A World Championship and also scored three points in the U20 tournament. The 193-centimeter forward is large, powerful on skates, and particularly dangerous in corner battles. In the practice match against Canada, Bundgaard recorded 1+1 points.

Markus Jakobsen is the most interesting name in Denmark’s defense. He has played effectively in the BCHL and USHL this season, and in terms of skills, he is the best defender in the country. Denmark’s defense is small and relatively anonymous, which is why Jakobsen should stand out.
