Young Finnish goalie signed a new NHL contract

The Ottawa Senators have signed a one-year contract extension with Finnish goalie Leevi Meriläinen. The contract is one-way and worth 1.05 million dollars.
Meriläinen, 22, was the Senators’ 3rd round pick (#71) in 2020. Last season, he played 12 NHL games with a save percentage of 92.5 and a goals-against average of 1.99. Additionally, Meriläinen recorded three shutouts.
In the AHL last season, Meriläinen played 37 games for the Belleville Senators with a save percentage of 91.3.
Meriläinen made his first two NHL appearances in the 2022-23 season. He has played a total of 65 games in the AHL.
