The NHL has fined Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander 5,000 euros for an inappropriate gesture.
The incident occurred on Sunday during the game between the Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche, which Nylander watched from the press box. The injured Swedish star showed his middle finger to the television camera during the game.
The fine is the maximum allowed under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement. Nylander later apologized for his gesture on Instagram, explaining that his frustration was related to his injury and being sidelined from games.
Nylander has been out of the lineup due to groin issues. This season, he has recorded 48 points in 37 games.
