Who will leave and who will stay? Is Florida trading their playoff hero forwards?
Double champion Florida Panthers are in a tough spot. The team’s salary cap space is limited, while at the same time Sam Bennett, Brad Marchand, and Aaron Ekblad would need contract extensions.
According to NHL reporter Pierre LeBrun, Bennett is most likely to stay under the Florida sun. The likelihood of keeping Marchand is 50-50, while Ekblad is most likely to continue his career elsewhere.
To hold on to their big names, Florida may have to part ways with some players who have contracts for next season. NHL reporter Nick Kypreos speculates that forward Evan Rodrigues, 31, may be sacrificed due to contract extensions.
Rodrigues is a versatile forward who has proven his worth especially in the playoffs. He scored 15 points in the postseason each year when Florida celebrated the championship. His annual salary is $3 million, and the contract runs until spring 2027.
