NHL teams have trimmed their rosters and sent some of their players to the AHL, before which some have to be placed on waivers. On Tuesday, three Finnish players were placed on waivers. Now other NHL teams have the opportunity to pick them up without compensation.

The New York Rangers placed defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and forward Juuso Pärssinen on waivers. Last season, Pärssinen played 20 NHL games with stats of 2+1. In the AHL, he recorded 5+2 points in 15 games.

In Vaakanainen’s case, being placed on waivers was a surprise. He has played at the NHL level for a long time. Last season, he played 34 games with the Rangers’ defense and collected six assists.

The New York Islanders, on the other hand, have placed goaltender Henrik Tikkanen on waivers. The 25-year-old Finnish goalie played 29 AHL games last season with a save percentage of 89.7.
