Tampa Bay Lightning captain Victor Hedman has announced that he will be stepping away from the team’s activities for personal reasons. The organization confirmed the decision on Wednesday but did not provide further details on the duration or reasons for the absence.
Hedman’s past season has been challenging. The 35-year-old Swedish veteran has played only 33 games, scoring 1+16. His last game ended prematurely on March 19 due to illness.
Hedman is one of the key players for championship favorite Lightning. He has won two Stanley Cups in his career and the Norris Trophy awarded to the NHL’s best defenseman in 2018.
