Veli-Matti Savinainen’s scandal was too much – Sofia Virta out of TPS
HC TPS Turku Oy board member Sofia Virta will not continue in the club’s board.
With these words, the Turku club announced the departure of the Green League chairperson on their website on Tuesday.
– We thank Sofia for her contributions to the club. She brought us a lot of expertise, especially in working with children and youth. TPS’s equality and gender equality work will continue with even more determination. TPS is committed to building a hockey culture where everyone is welcome — and this commitment is not dependent on one person but is a common line of the entire organization, says HC TPS Turku Oy board chairman Kai Koskinen.
Virta made headlines on Monday with her column criticizing Veli-Matti Savinainen that she shared on her social media channel.
Savinainen’s decision has sparked widespread discussion outside the sport’s boundaries after the World Championship gold medalist and six-time Finnish champion refused to wear a pride sticker on his jersey during TPS’s themed match over the weekend.
