Vegas Golden Knights strengthens with a powerful defenseman
Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to a trade involving two defensemen in the NHL.
Vegas receives power defenseman Parker Wotherspoon, while Pittsburgh adds Kaedan Korczak to their roster.
The 28-year-old Wotherspoon had the most productive season of his NHL career last year. The puck-skilled defenseman recorded 30 points with 3 goals and 27 assists in 80 regular season games. His contract, which includes a million-dollar annual salary, extends for another season, and the Penguins will retain 50 percent of his salary.
The 25-year-old Korczak moving to Pittsburgh is a fourth-round draft pick by Vegas from the summer of 2019. The big defenseman played 78 regular season games last season, tallying 16 points with 3 goals and 13 assists.
Korczak’s four-year extension signed last year will take effect in the upcoming season. The contract guarantees the defenseman an average annual income of $3.25 million.
Both teams strengthened their defense in the trade with players of different profiles: Vegas gets a ready puck-moving reliable defenseman, while the Penguins invest in a younger, longer-term solution.
