Vegas Golden Knights lost the fifth Stanley Cup final. The Carolina Hurricanes defeated them 4-2 and took the lead in the series with a score of 3-2. In addition to the loss, Vegas received more bad news, as the team’s Swedish forward William Karlsson was injured and left the game.

Karlsson was hit by Sean Walker in the second period. After that, Karlsson headed to the bench and then to the locker room. He managed to play 8 minutes and 43 seconds in the game.

It was reported that Karlsson left the arena during the game. He headed to the hospital for further examinations. Vegas head coach John Tortorella stated after the game that Karlsson will likely not play again in this season’s finals.

Karlsson, 33, had already been sidelined for a long time earlier this season. He was out due to a lower body injury from the beginning of November until the beginning of May, missing the winter Olympics in the process. Karlsson played only 14 regular-season games, scoring 4+3.

Karlsson returned to the lineup in the second round of the playoffs and played 15 playoff games, scoring 3+6. He has played as the center of Vegas’s second line.

William Karlsson likely will not return in the Stanley Cup Final, per HC John Tortorella.

He left Game 5 following a hit from Sean Walker and reportedly left the arena to receive treatment.
