NHL news bomb! Anaheim buying out their star’s contract

The Anaheim Ducks are placing forward Chris Kreider, 35, on the trade list to buy out his contract. The news was reported by Sportsnet.
Anaheim’s decision is surprising. The team desperately needs to make room under the salary cap for Cutter Gauthier’s extension.
Kreider’s annual salary is 6.5 million dollars. His contract only covers the upcoming season.
By no means was Kreider an underperformer. He recorded 50 points in 75 games last season with 22 goals and 28 assists.
Gauthier, on the other hand, scored 69 points in 76 games with 41 goals and 28 assists.
