Now the big question about NHL’s TV broadcasts has been revealed
The broadcasting of the NHL in Finland is undergoing changes this upcoming season, but Viaplay will still show the majority of the regular season games. Viaplay states that it will exclusively show over 1,150 NHL games in the 2026–2027 season.
There are a total of 1,344 games in the NHL regular season. According to information that emerged yesterday, the rights in Finland will be shared between Viaplay, Disney/ESPN, and MTV.
The number of games now announced by Viaplay is clearly higher than previously reported. According to Iltalehti, the service was expected to have around 900 regular season games, but the final number will exceed 1,150 games.
Thus, the broadcasting locations for the previously open regular season games have also been clarified.
Viaplay’s new NHL contract is for five years and extends to 2031. The service will also show all decisive games starting from the conference finals.
The NHL season starts on September 29. The NHL Global Series games played at the Veikkaus Arena in Helsinki are also part of Viaplay’s offerings.
Viaplay’s NHL studios will continue as well. The Vallila studios will cover game events weekly, and the expert team familiar from last season will continue in their roles.
– The NHL has a unique place in the hearts of Finnish hockey fans, and we will continue to provide them with the best place to enjoy the world’s best hockey, says Viaplay’s hockey producer Iiro Harjula.
An exact program schedule has not yet been published. However, highlights of all the season’s games can still be found on Viaplay.
– As usual, every week Finland’s leading hockey experts will analyze game events from our Vallila studios. Our smart and cinematic expert team, familiar from last season, is also on board this season, so the level of studio analyses will continue to be top-notch, Harjula promises.
The commentators for the NHL will continue to be Antti Mäkinen, Tero Kainulainen, Velja Engström, and Nuutti Vihtilä.
