Vancouver struck a massive deal – 75 million dollars for the young star
The Vancouver Canucks have made a massive investment in their future. The team signed young defenseman Zeev Buium to an eight-year extension on Friday, with a total value of about 75 million dollars.
The 20-year-old American will earn an average of 9.38 million dollars per season from the new contract. The deal will take effect when the defenseman’s entry-level contract expires in a year.
Buium moved to Vancouver mid-last season from the Minnesota Wild as part of a blockbuster trade that sent superstar Quinn Hughes the other way.
The young defenseman played a total of 76 regular-season games last season, recording 6+20=26 points.
Buium is regarded as one of the most promising defensemen of his age group. He has won the under-20 World Championship twice while representing the United States.
Buium’s former team, the Wild, drafted him as the 12th overall pick in the first round in the summer of 2024.
