Urheilucast: Several top NHL teams are on Eeli Tolvanen's trail – this is where the negotiations fell through

Eeli Tolvanen‘s situation in the NHL’s free market has become one of the most interesting topics of discussion for Finns as the end of summer approaches.

The 27-year-old winger is still without a contract as the new season approaches. According to Urheilucast’s Esko Seppänen, Tolvanen had several NHL offers on the table in July, but the Finnish player decided to reject them in hopes of a better deal.

The decision has not yet produced the desired results.

– Tolvanen is still without an NHL contract because, according to Urheilucast’s information, he took a big risk, and at least at this stage, he has preliminarily lost, Seppänen says.

It is reported that Tolvanen has been primarily seeking a long contract and a desirable location in the United States.

– Tolvanen was looking for a big and, above all, long UFA deal from tax-friendly locations in the USA, but things did not progress as expected, and at the same time, the market completely cooled down.

Based on Seppänen’s information, Tolvanen could have locked in a contract earlier in the summer. However, the offers did not meet the forward’s wishes regarding either the location of the organization or the length of the contract.

– There were less desirable offers on the table early on. He was not interested in certain locations and turned them down. They were from the wrong place or had too few years.

Particularly painful for Tolvanen is that, according to Urheilucast, there would have been interest from some of the NHL’s true top teams. Ultimately, these opportunities may have dried up completely.

– Then came the snow in the face from these directions that had previously shown green lights, such as from Dallas and Florida, according to Urheilucast’s information, Seppänen says.

Tolvanen has played a total of 423 regular season games in the NHL, with stats of 92+98=190. The Finnish player, who started his NHL career with the Nashville Predators, most recently represented the Seattle Kraken for several seasons.
