Urheilucast: Jussi Ahokas makes a big revelation – he negotiated with this NHL team!
In recent years, Finnish coach Jussi Ahokas, who has been involved in numerous NHL speculations, took a step closer to legend this summer when he became the head coach of the AHL team Colorado Eagles.
Ahokas, 45, now reveals in Urheilucast that he was very close to an NHL position a year ago. Ahokas mentioned in the Urheilucast episode that he had negotiated joining the coaching staff of the Edmonton Oilers.
– I would have been responsible for the forwards and the power play in Edmonton, Ahokas explained.
In Edmonton, Ahokas would have had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s best players, including Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
This summer, Ahokas states that in addition to the Colorado Eagles, he was pursued by two other AHL teams. Reportedly, one of them was the Abbotsford Canucks, whose offer Ahokas is said to have declined. According to Ahokas, all offers from the AHL were for head coaching positions.
For the past three seasons, Ahokas coached the junior team Kitchener Rangers in the OHL. He led the team to the OHL championship and the Memorial Cup victory last season.
