Urheilucast: Eemeli Suomi returns to the League? Now a significant transfer rumor has dropped
Forward Eemeli Suomi may make a surprising return to the Liiga quite quickly. According to Urheilucast, several Finnish clubs are closely monitoring his situation, even though the player still has a valid contract with Växjö in the Swedish SHL.
Suomi moved to Växjö last year on a three-year contract. However, discussions have now arisen about a possible return to Finland, which could happen as early as next season or at the latest the following season.
Urheilucast host Esko Seppänen mentioned in the broadcast that there is growing interest in Suomi from several Liiga organizations.
– Former Ilves captain Eemeli Suomi is on the radar of a couple of SM-liiga clubs. Such matters rarely reach us if nothing is actually happening. This situation is worth following, Seppänen said in the broadcast.
One of the interested clubs Seppänen highlighted is Suomi’s former team, Tampereen Ilves.
– I can reveal that one of the interested clubs is Tampereen Ilves. Currently, there are reports coming from several directions regarding where he will play in the future, Seppänen noted.
However, according to him, there is no more detailed information about a possible new club.
– I don’t have more specific information or an opinion on where he should play. I’m just sharing what I have heard about his future. If Eemeli Suomi returns to the Liiga, he would still be a very significant player, Seppänen assessed.
Suomi played 36 SHL games for Växjö last season and recorded modest stats of 6+8=14. Before moving to Sweden, he was a key player for Ilves: in the Liiga season 2024–2025, the forward scored 40 points in 43 games with 16+24=40.
