Two-meter Finnish giant: NHL contract!
The New York Islanders have signed Finnish goaltender Henrik Tikkanen to a one-year contract extension. The deal is two-way and is worth $850,000.
Tikkanen, 25, has been with the Islanders organization for four seasons, but he has yet to play any games in the NHL. Tikkanen has played 77 games in the AHL and 73 games in the ECHL.
Last season, Tikkanen played 29 games in the AHL with the Bridgeport Islanders, posting a save percentage of 89.7. Additionally, he played eight games in the ECHL with the Worcester Railers, achieving a save percentage of 92.9.
The large-sized (200 cm/101 kg) Tikkanen was originally the Islanders’ 7th round pick in 2020.
Before moving across the pond, Tikkanen played nine Liiga games with KalPa. His most recent games in Europe were in Sweden, where he played one game in the SHL and 19 games in the Allsvenskan.
