Tre Kronor’s huge fiasco – two NHL stars out of the Olympic tournament!
The Swedish team preparing for the Olympic hockey tournament is experiencing two huge setbacks on the injury front.
Head coach Sam Hallam tells Aftonbladet that the coaching staff does not expect center Leo Carlsson, who plays in the NHL, or veteran defenseman Jonas Brodin to recover from their injuries in time for the February Olympic tournament.
– We believe we need to replace Brodin and Carlsson. We do not consider it likely that they will start the tournament, Hallam admits.
The 21-year-old Carlsson, who is among the country’s biggest future prospects, has played 44 games this season with the Anaheim Ducks, with stats of 18+26=44.
Brodin, who has played 900 NHL games in his career, has played 42 games with the Minnesota Wild, with stats of 3+12=15.
Aftonbladet describes the situation in its article as a “Swedish nightmare.”
– This is really sad for them. They are skilled hockey players and good people. We will have certainty on the matter in a few days, Hallam added to Expressen.
Sweden will play in the same group as Finland in the Olympic Games. The tournament starts on February 11.
