Tre Kronor received more bad news from the NHL – star defenseman sidelined from the Olympics?
The Swedish national ice hockey team is struggling with a wave of injuries, with less than a month to go until the Olympics.
The Minnesota Wild announced on Thursday that the team’s star defenseman Jonas Brodin is suffering from a lower body injury, and his condition will be evaluated week by week.
The absence of the World Championship gold medal defenseman, who has played nearly a thousand NHL games, would be a significant setback for Tre Kronor. The 32-year-old national team veteran has played 42 games this season with stats of 3+12=15.
The injury situation for the defenders selected for the Swedish Olympic team is currently bleak. Among the country’s star defensemen, Erik Karlsson, a three-time NHL best defenseman, is currently injured, as well as Victor Hedman, a two-time Stanley Cup champion who has won the award once.
Forwards Gabriel Landeskog‘s participation in the tournament is also uncertain after the Colorado Avalanche captain injured himself in early January.
