Toronto’s star defender amidst trade rumors – this is how he believes it will go
The Toronto Maple Leafs’ last season was very difficult. During the summer, the club was expected to make big moves to turn the tide. Transfer rumors particularly focused on star defenseman Morgan Rielly, 32. So far, no deals have been made, and Rielly is still with Toronto.
In an Sportsnet interview, Rielly was asked if he believes he will play in Toronto’s season opener.
– I would assume so. I’ve just been trying to stay focused and be present. I’ve enjoyed every minute, Rielly said.
– I’m grateful to be a part of this organization and this team. I believe great things are ahead of us, and I’m looking forward to being a part of them.
After the World Championships, Rielly spoke with the new GM John Chayka. Chayka did not provide guarantees about the defenseman’s future with the Leafs, but Rielly still had a good impression of the new leadership.
– We had a good conversation after the World Championships, and he has a plan. He is very straightforward, and as a player, that’s exactly what you want.
Last season, Rielly recorded 36 points in 78 games, with stats of 11+25=36. His plus-minus rating was 18 points in the negative.
