Auston Matthews and Toronto’s relationship is on thin ice. Criticism of the underperforming superstar has intensified as wins have not come, and this season the Maple Leafs are on track to miss the playoffs.
NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman made a big revelation about Matthews and Toronto’s situation on his 32 Thoughts podcast.
– There was a lot of noise about Auston Matthews this week. I believe there was a 0.0 percent chance of trading him, but I think at some point during the league break there will be discussions about what the parties think, Friedman reveals.
Matthews’ contract has two years left after this season. His annual salary is 13.25 million dollars.
In 57 games this season, Matthews has recorded 26+26=52 points.
