Finnish defender Topi Niemelä may change teams for the next season in the SHL. According to Expressen, Färjestad BK is interested in Niemelä, who represents Malmö.

Niemelä’s contract with Malmö Redhawks is coming to an end, and there is no decision yet on an extension. Continuing in Malmö is still possible, but a transfer to another SHL team seems like a viable option.

The 23-year-old right-shooting defender has had a strong season, collecting 19 points in 53 games. Among Malmö’s defenders, only Robin Salo scored more points. Niemelä also has experience with the national team and a background in the AHL.
