Tobias Winberg returns to the Liiga!
Finnish defenseman Tobias Winberg joins JYP on a two-year contract.
The 26-year-old Winberg played last season in the Swedish SHL with MoDo Hockey. The Helsinki native, 26, previously played for two seasons with JYP before joining MoDo.
“Winberg is a versatile defenseman, with strengths particularly in defensive play and penalty killing. As a good skater, Winberg can also support the offense and contribute in the attacking zone,” said JYP’s Director of Sports Operations Simo Mälkiä in a press release.
Last season, Winberg tallied 1+8=9 points in 51 games in the SHL. The reliable defenseman’s season ended in disappointment as MoDo was relegated in the qualifiers to Sweden’s second-highest level.
Winberg played seven EHT games for the Finnish national team this season.
