This would surprise everyone – Jarmo Kekäläinen is working on a crazy Finnish trade at the NHL trade deadline!
As the NHL trade deadline approaches, attention turns to Jarmo Kekäläinen and his Buffalo Sabres. According to North American sources, Buffalo is exploring the possibility of acquiring Rasmus Ristolainen from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Ristolainen’s potential return to Buffalo was discussed by NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast.
– Buffalo is looking for a ‘meat’ on the blue line. But would they ever take him back? At least he is a player they would know what they are getting.
– It could very well be that this is just my thought, Friedman noted.
Also, Daily Faceoff reporter Anthony Di Marco mentioned on the messaging service X that Buffalo is one of the teams interested in Ristolainen.
Ristolainen played in Buffalo for eight seasons from 2013 to 2021. He is 31 years old. This season, he has played 22 games and recorded 1+5=6 points.
Kekäläinen was hired as Buffalo’s GM in mid-December. Since then, the Sabres have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL. The team has risen to second place in the Atlantic Division. Kekäläinen was also part of the support team for the Lions at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
